Fashion designer Sammy Kioko has gone viral after claiming that Machakos County Government has failed to pay him upon completing a tender deal. Sammy and his associate have reached to the public seeking help in reaching the county governor, Wavinya Ndeti to express his concerns. Since then, Wavinya Ndeti has responded saying that Sammy did not deliver anything worth payment and that he is looking for followers.

What Happened
Kenyan comedian and entrepreneur Sammy Kioko has publicly demanded payment from the Machakos County Government, claiming he is owed KSh 19 million for a contract completed nearly two years ago.
Kioko says the delayed payment has crippled his embroidery and tailoring business, forcing him to shut it down, lay off workers, and struggle to pay rent and medical bills for his ailing sister. In protest, he camped outside the governor’s office in Machakos to seek attention and accountability.
The Machakos County Government, however, has denied owing him the full amount, sparking a public debate about transparency in county tenders and the treatment of small business contractors.
Kenyans online have shown sympathy for Kioko, praising his courage to confront the county government publicly. The case has also reignited conversations about delayed government payments and how they affect young entrepreneurs and creatives trying to make a living through county contracts.

The tailor says she worked with Sammy on the County tender which involved making uniforms for the county government workers. Maureen is currently ailing and has developed health complications which need medical attention. After delivering through CS, Maureen got fibroids which need urgent surgery but lacks the funds to accomplish the mission. Sammy adds that Maureen house is will be closed after 15 days if she will not have paid her dues.
Kenyans for Sammy
Several celebrities have come out to support Sammy Kioko. They have made several social media posts showing him support. Kenyans have expressed concern about Sammy’s pending payments and Wavinya’s ignorance. Indeed, TikTokers are planning to visit the Machakos County governor to demand Sammy’s payment.
Government Opression
When governments fail to pay individuals or small businesses for completed work, it becomes economic oppression. The state holds power and money, while citizens have little recourse. Delayed payments lead to business collapse, job losses, and debt, often forcing people into poverty. Bureaucracy and corruption make the situation worse, as some officials demand bribes or use red tape to avoid accountability. In the end, non-payment by government weakens entrepreneurship, destroys trust, and keeps ordinary citizens struggling under an unfair system.
