Kamene: A Village Girl Turned A City Human Butcher

Kamene is sitting outside her family’s house when she hears a loud voice screaming. It is her mother, Grace. Kamene’s father has just passed away. It is around 5 in the evening on a cloudy Friday. Kamene was sitting on a plastic chair outside her house. Her compound was full of guests, most of them family members and friends. They had visited upon learning of the worsening health condition of Kamene’s father, Mulinge.

A Background Story Recap

Mr Mulinge, a local farmer in a very remote village, has been ailing for a week. He had been in and out of the hospital before his demise. Mulinge suffered from a mild stroke when he was rushed to the nearest hospital. He was treated and sent home for recovery. Although he was doing fine for a few days, his condition worsened on the fateful day. Mulinge had paralysis on the left side of the body and could not move or talk. However, before he could stop talking, the last thing he said was, “Don’t take me to the hospital, allow me to die from my home.”

Mr Mulinge gave these instructions on Friday morning. When Grace and other family members saw that his health condition was worsening, they were willing to defy the orders and take him to the hospital. Mulinge could not move, talk, or even move his eyes from one point. He was literally dead alive.

News about his health condition spread fast, and the villagers, together with family members, were gathering on the compound. They were insistent on taking Mr Mulinge to the hospital. Kamene, the only child of the couple, sits in low spirits, silently praying for her father’s recovery. She is so pissed that her father is refusing to seek medical help. It is when Grace and relatives are preparing Mr Mulinge for the hospital that he passes on.

Moment of Death

Grace screams, sending a sorrowful message outside the house. Kamene almost breaks her legs running towards the screaming voice. She cannot believe her eyes, her father, her mentor, and source of strength is gone. He lay there lifeless. Kamene sinks into the ground, joining her mother in crying. The whole village is devastated. Mr Mulinge was a good person and did not deserve to die so soon. It was unforeseen. Mulinge’s relatives do not waste time before taking the corpse to the morgue and burying it within a week. Kamene has no idea what the world has in store for her. Check out the next part.
